Records related to the Indian Steel Training Program (IN STEP), a program initiated in 1957, at the request of the American Iron and Steel Institute and the Ford Foundation, to train Indian engineers in American production and management Techniques in the steel industry. This involved a year of on-the-job training for young Indian engineers in American steel plants and classroom studies in institutes of technology to prepare them for supervisory positions in the Indian steel industry. CIT oversaw the administration of the program.
