Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Computer Science Videotape Collection contains over 400 videos of compelling lectures, discussions, classes, and demonstrations led by computer science pioneers from Carnegie Mellon University, private industry and other academic institutions. The videos were recorded between 1970 and 1993 and feature more than 20 Turing Award winners, as well as many under-recognized scientists and practitioners. Topics range from artificial intelligence, computer graphics, and robotics, to nascent programing languages, computer architecture and computing theory.

The majority of the recordings in this collection are on two obsolete video formats, ½ EIAJ open-reel and U-Matic. In order to view a video from the collection, it must be digitized. The University Archives is actively digitizing videos from this collection on an on-going bases. To access videos that have been digitized go here: https://vimeo.com/showcase/cmuarchivescsd.
