Content Description
The Shirley Angrist Papers primarily contains reports, statistical data, correspondence, meeting minutes, related to Dr. Angrist’s research on Women’s related issues at Carnegie Mellon University and Margaret Morrison Carnegie College. The records are arranged chronologically into four series. The contents of each series are arranged alphabetically by record type.
Series I, "The Role Outlook of Educated Women"1963-1969 contains materials related to Dr. Angrist’s research conducted as part of the research initiative “New Ventures in Higher Education for Women” at the Margaret Morrison Carnegie College (MMCC). As part of the study, Dr. Angrist surveyed the incoming 1965 MMCC class on issues related to the role outlook of college women, including surveying student’s knowledge of birth control methods.
Series II, Commission on the Status and Needs of Women (COSNW) 1965-1973, contains materials related to Dr. Angrist’s work as the Research Director of the Commission on the Status and Needs of Women (COSNW). The Commission reported on the inequalities in salaries, fringe benefits, and rank among women faculty and staff compared to their male counterparts. The Commission also reported on student issues such as admissions, treatment in the classroom, housing, and counseling services faced by female identifying students at CMU.
Series III, CITIZEN’s Task Force on the State Correctional Institute for Women at Muncy, Pennsylvania, 1966-1971, contians records related to the conditions and status of women with justice system involvement at SCI Muncy.
Series IV consists mostly of correspondence related to Dr. Angrist’s participation in professional memberships and CMU related committees. It also contains materials related to Dr. Angrist’s semester as a guest researcher at Radcliffe Institute from 1968-1969.
