Scope and Contents
From the Sub-Series:
The subseries portrays the relationships between students and faculty, the faculty in their role as mediators with the University on the students' behalf, as well as the relationship between faculty within the department and the larger University. For the most part, this subseries consists of administrative materials related to curriculum, recruitment and admissions, tenure, the hiring of faculty, and policy. The majority of papers in this collection have to do with the Immigration Course, and applications to the program and date largely from 1972-1975. The materials prior to and following the period of the 1970s are sparse. The curriculum materials do not necessarily track a student's development, (i.e. provide examples of what happens after the IC. The focus is the IC which is completed first term.) but do provide insight into the selection of students and their introduction to the program. There are several publications in this series. The "Guide to Living in Pittsburgh" by Brian K. Reid and Elaine Rich presents a unique view into the services existing within the department's community. The Faculty Research Guide was an internal publication meant to assist incoming students in the selection of their advisor. After the 1970s the records consist primarily of outreach materials.
