[J.F. Traub ~ Unused Notes for Cyert Report] -- Notes, 1975
Scope and Contents note
The administrative functions subseries consists of policy documents, annual reports, and evidence of the department's interactions with the larger university. These records have to do with internal matters - budgets, reports, planning documents, university and departmental policy and interactions with the dean, provost and University President. A main function of the department was in negotiating within and reporting to the administrative system of the University. The Annual reports run consecutively from 1965 - 1974, then from 1976 - 1979 and were created for presentation to the president's office. These reports and their consistency in the time-frame make up the bulk of the subseries. For the most part, there are few documents which support the creation of these reports. Taken as a whole, the records of this subseries provide insight into the functioning and development of the department during the 1970s. They do provide a top-down perspective on this functioning as they were primarily created by or directed to Joseph Traub. The majority of the records are from the 1970s during which time Joseph Traub was department head. Of special note is the role that Alan Newell played in almost all negotiations and interactions with the 'powers that be' of the university.
