 File — Box: 5, Folder: 352

Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

The records in this sub-series are primarily from the years 1971 to 1974. Many of the documents in this sub-series are related to the internal development of the department, but there are also documents which have evidence of the participation of the department with the formation of policy for the university at large. A primary departmental committee was the Departmental Review Committee which consisted of students and faculty working together to address issues with the curriculum and with the program. Primarily, they addressed issues with the Immigration Course and the Qualifying examinations. This committee makes up the majority of the sub-series. Many departmental decisions, such as the purchase of new computers and the creation of a networked system were made via committee. The progress of their work is documented in the minutes and memoranda of the relevant committee. Also represented is the work of committees within the larger context of the university regarding such issues as tenure, tuition and Affirmative Action. Again, the records are rich from the 1970s, but rather sparse prior to and after that decade.
