The collection consists primarily of undated photographs taken of the Shanty Crew circa 1913. There is also an example of the design work done by Louise and Ernest Boyer.

Biographical Sketch

Ernest Wilson "Arch" Boyer was a night student of Architecture. He graduated in 1913. While attending Tech, he was a member of the Tech Architectural Club in the years 1910 and 1911, and was President of the Night Class for the years 1909 through 1912. He designed the cover of the Thistle from 1909 until 1913, and was very involved in Shanty. He came in second in President Hamerschlag's design competition for a Pittsburgh Kindergarten College in 1911, and won first prize in the Tartan cover competition in that same year. After graduation, he worked for Henry Hornbostel from 1913-1915. He then went on to be a designer draftsman in several Pittsburgh architectural firms, and to work for the Gulf Oil Company.

A native of Pittsburgh, Louise Boyer (nee Louise Rive King Miller) was a student of Illustration who graduated in 1913. While attending Tech, she was the Tech Design Club President, on the Pageant Committee, and the Art editor of the Thistle in 1913. Later in life, she became a lay homeopath, and an accomplished artist. Her work is on permanent collection at the Carnegie Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among other museums.
