Eleanor Wilson Stoltz Collection
Scope and Contents Note
The Eleanor Wilson Stoltz Collection consists of five cubic feet (five boxes) and four series. It contains books on children’s art education, art tools, and artwork Stoltz produced while she was a student at Carnegie Tech. The majority of the artwork is in good condition.

Eleanor Wilson Stoltz Biographical Note
Eleanor Wilson Stoltz graduated from Carnegie Tech in 1945 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in art education. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1923, and she received her degree from Carnegie Tech just four years before Andy Warhol. After graduation, she went on to teach children’s art classes in public schools throughout the Pittsburgh area. During her career, she founded two children’s art schools, and she remained active in art education well into her 70s.

Series Descriptions
Series 1: General Information This series contains general information about the collection, including a presentation put together by Susan Stoltz about her mother's work. The presentation contains images of the items and captions that provide additional insight. This series also consists of information about an exhibit that was held in the Ellis Gallery on Carnegie Mellon University's campus in 2010. The exhibit was titled "After Pearl Harbor."
Series 2: Books This series contains books on art and children's art education. The books were published between 1929 and 1946.
Series 3: Artwork This series contains artwork from Stoltz’s portfolio. All of the pieces were created while she was a student at Carnegie Tech. It includes portraits, still lifes, and landscapes; and the pieces vary in style, material, and method. Notable items include a painting titled “Pittsburgh Industry Montage” and, although it is in poor condition, a portrait done using egg tempera.
Series 4: Tools This series contains various tools Stoltz used in her studio. It includes a wooden jewelers clamp, a box of Mongol "paint with pencils," and a tin watercolor kit.
