Biographical/Historical note
The Carnegie Mellon University Student Government is made up of an Executive Council and a Student Council. Throughout its history, the Student Government has used the terms “Student Council”, “Student Congress”, and “Student Senate” interchangeably to label the legislative body of the Student Government.
The Executive Council acts as the overall governing body of student activities on campus and is made up of a President, Vice-President, and Treasurer. They are responsible for appointing chairmen to oversee various campus activities and approving decisions made by the Student Council.
The Student Council acts as the legislative branch of Student Government. They coordinate and plan major activities and are responsible for holding elections, handling club finances, and connecting the student body with the University Administration. The Student Council includes representatives from each college and department within the University and the number of representatives elected for each is dependent on the size of that particular department.
