Scope and Contents
The Freda Cazen Abler Papers contains material related to Cazen's time at Carnegie Tech and has been arranged in three series.
The Coursework series includes assigments for a History of Costume class and a manual with instrucitons for crew heads.
The Scrapbook Material series is primarily composed of press clippings. These clippings includes review of productions Cazen was involved in at Carnegie Tech. It also includes copies of color sketches of early CIT producitons featuring B. Iden Payne and Thomas Wood Stevens. The majority of the collection is made of of photographs from productions Cazen was involved with. Additional photographs from the those productions can be found in the School of Drama Photographs Collection.

Biography
Freda Cazen was born in Pittsburgh on May 18, 1911. She attended Carnegie Tech, and graduated with a degree in Drama in 1931.
After briefly moving to New York, Cazen returend to Pittsburgh where she continued to pursue acting and married Elliot Abler. She played the role of "Eve" in the radio show "Adam and Eve." She played Tevye's wife Goda in the 1960 Pittsburgh Playhouse production of "Tevye and His Daughters." She later played Yenta in a local produciton of "Fiddler on the Roof."
She passed away on January 20, 2011.
