Devil sticking tools, ca. 1990
The items in this series consist of materials related to Atkeson's time at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, or MIT. After receiving his Ph.D. there in 1986 he stayed on in an assistant professor position for several more years. The robots here include an example of a Shannon Juggler, based on a machine created by Claude Shannon, as well as commercial direct drive arm parts.

The materials in this subseries include complete robots and robotics parts and pieces which were produced commercially, not internally at Carnegie Mellon. They were used for different research projects at the university but were acquired from outside vendors. The items were collected and saved by Chris Atkeson to help preserve the history of CMU Robotics.
