Review of IFIAC Report from Central Banking, 2000
Scope and Contents note
The International Financial Institution Advisory Commission (IFIAC) was established in November 1998 in order to consider the future roles of seven international financial institutions: The International Monetary Fund, The World Bank Group, The Inter-American Development Bank, The Asian Development Bank, The African Development Bank, The World Trade Organization, and The Bank for International Settlements. The Commission was also known as the Meltzer Commission--named for its chair.
The Commission existed for six months and held meetings for twelve days and public hearings for three. A final report, also known as the Meltzer Report was released in 2000 and proposed changes to the operations of the International Monetary Fund, especially the World Bank.
