Notes -- Error Analysis, Linear Relations, N.D.
Scope and Contents note
The Early Career series is housed in two boxes and is arranged chronologically. This series contains Traub's handwritten notes which he collected into blue three-ring binders as well as other materials pre-dating his appointment at Carnegie Mellon University. The binders contain drafts of untitled memorandums, general research or ideas, notes on articles Traub had studied, and many equations and formulas. Some binders were labeled with a topic. When available, the title Traub had given the binder was transferred to the folder heading. Most of the notes are N.D.; however a majority of the binders included at least one page that was dated. Binders for which no date could be discerned are filed alphabetically by title at the end of the series. Binder notes pertaining to particular publications of Traub's can be found in the "Research" series (series four).
Two folders at the beginning of the series contain materials about Traub's education. The first contains material from his secondary schooling at the Bronx High School of Science, such as report cards, a laboratory notebook, and assignments. The second folder contains correspondence about his higher education at City College and Columbia University, mainly about scholarships, fellowships, internships, and jobs. Other folders in this series contain information about his projects at the Bell Telephone Laboratories and his teaching activities at the University of Washington and Stevenson Institute of Technology.
