Scope and Contents

The Claude Woolman Collection documents the life and acting career of Carnegie Mellon alumni Claude Woolman through newspaper clippings and photographs. The majority of the material relates to productions Woolman was involved in while enrolled in the School of Drama. The collection also includes a VHS tape of "The Swan Song" starring Richard Kiley which recieved the gold medal during the Atlanta International Festival.

The Claude Woolman Collection is divided into two series: Printed Materials (1964-1972) and Photographs (1959-1982). Both series are arranged alphabetically.

Biography

Born Claude Woolman Jenkins, (1933-1989), Woolman was a California native and graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in 1956. He starred in the Pittsburgh Playhouse production of “Hamlet” and is most recognized for his role in the MGM western film, “Heaven with a Gun” (1969).

It is unknown how this collection originally arrived at the Carnegie Mellon University archives. The Claude Woolman papers were maintained by the archives as part of the School of Drama records until the material was sepearted in 2014 to form its own collection.
