The Association of Producing Artists Collection includes materials relating to the establishment of the Association of Producing Artists (APA) by Carnegie Mellon School of Drama alumnus, Ellis Rabb and spans the years 1955-1970.

Carra was a former Carnegie Mellon Drama faculty member for 31 years. He was involved in the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival, the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and co-author of the definitive text on directing, Fundamentals of Play Directing, which is now in its fifth edition. The collection consists of materials from many of the plays he directed in Texas , Boston, New Jersey, Chicago, and Pittsburgh.

The William Nelson Collection contains mostly photographs and production programs of various School of Drama plays Nelson either attended or directed between 1948 and 1951 during his time as Staff Lighting Director for the Drama Department.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: The Association of Producing Artists Collection contains correspondence, programs, and clippings pertaining to the plays hosted by the APA during the years 1955-1970. The majority of the correspondence in the collection is between Ellis Rabb (founder of the APA) and Henry Boettcher (School of Drama Department Head) regarding Boettcher’s donations to help fund the association and clear its debt. Overview

The Hollister S. Smith collection contians photographs dating bewteen 1928 and 1930. The photos document the activites of Smith within the Carnegie Mellon drama program and document a select number of plays he was involved in.
